Therapy for Adults in
Sundowner, Johannesburg

Do I need therapy?

Many people feel lost, stuck, unhappy, afraid, overwhelmed or lonely. As the stigma surrounding mental health is breaking down, more and more people are finding space to work on their mental health in order to live a more fulfilling life.

Below are a few common signs of mental health difficulties in adults

  • Feeling sad or down

  • Confused thinking or reduced ability to concentrate

  • Excessive fears or worries, or extreme feelings of guilt

  • Extreme mood changes of highs and lows

  • Withdrawal from friends and activities

  • Major life transitions (changing careers, moving to a new place etc.)

  • Significant tiredness, low energy or problems sleeping

  • Detachment from reality (delusions), paranoia or hallucinations

  • Inability to cope with daily problems or stress

  • Trauma or loss

  • Trouble understanding and relating to situations and to people

  • Major changes in eating habits

  • Sex drive changes

  • Excessive anger, hostility or violence

  • Suicidal thinking

Everyone faces certain challenges in life and it's Dan's belief that the majority of people can benefit from therapy and the insight and awareness that comes with it. However, most people begin the process of therapy when they feel that their mental health is beginning to affect other aspects of their lives such as their work or relationships with family and friends.

What is adult therapy?

Dan believes that most people will benefit from therapy, however, many people are apprehensive about the process. The decision to enter therapy is courageous yet sometimes difficult, and Dan aims to offer you a supportive space so that you can allow yourself the time and patience needed to better understand yourself and your presenting concerns. Therapy is aimed at providing a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where you can share your experiences, be heard and explore possible solutions to some of the difficulties you may face. Adult life is filled with stresses and pressures which often feed into a cycle of feelings, thoughts and behaviours which can generally be traced back to our primary relationships. When we come to understand such cycles and their roots, we are able to gain acceptance and insight, and ultimately, create change. As a licensed psychologist, Dan is able to bring evidence based techniques and tools in order to tailor treatment to the unique challenges of each client.

The length of therapy will differ for each person and, over time, you will come to have a unique relationship with Dan. The therapy that Dan offers aims at developing an understanding of one’s self so as to create deep and enduring changes in one’s life. Therapy is driven at times by you and at others by Dan in an attempt to gain insight, awareness and acceptance. However, we are complex beings and therapy differs, based on the needs of each person. Dan will work in collaboration with you in an attempt to maximise your wellbeing by creating a space where you feel you are genuinly heard, whilst providing you with support in making the changes you hope to see. Dan believes that the primary road to healing and growth occurs through the relationship that develops between a person and their therapist.
